Amol Muzumdar celebrates India’s first Women’s World Cup win

Amol MuzumdarICC Women’s World Cup 2025India Women, the head coach, explained how the Indian women’s World Cup 2025 campaign has been “surreal.” In a thrilling match played at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on November 2, India defeated South Africa by 52 runs to win their first Women’s World Cup.

Muzumdar commended the Women in Blue for maintaining their optimism in the face of three consecutive league phase losses. In order to win the title, he praised the way the unit played against Australia in both the semifinal and the final.

“It’s been unbelievable. It has been a weird campaign. We had a good start with two victories, but then we lost those three games. Loss is a pretty harsh term, I feel we just couldn’t go and cross a line on those times, but the way these players came back and fought it out in the middle, it just goes to show what personalities they are and the fight that they showed against Australia. Emotions were running high after their comeback against Australia in the finals.

According to Mint, Muzumdar said, “I’m really happy and thrilled for these girls that they’ve become world champions. It’s just an amazing campaign.”

India Women defeated Pakistan by 88 runs and Sri Lanka by 59 runs (using the DLS system) to start their campaign. With seven points from seven games, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led team finished fourth in the standings. In order to go to the final match against the Proteas in Navi Mumbai, they then chased down a record 339 against the reigning champions, Australia. The South Africans were knocked out for 246 in 45.3 overs by the hosts, who were defending 299 for win.

For his 87 off 78 and 2/36 in seven overs, Shafali Verma, who entered as an injured substitute prior to the knockout stages, won Player of the Match. The Player of the Tournament title went to Deepti Sharma for her 215 runs and 22 wickets. In February and March of next year, India will play Australia in an all-format series in Australia.
