Amit Mishra's 'age fraud' clip resurfaces post-retirement

Hours after Amit Mishra retired from all forms of cricket on Thursday, September 4, his admission of involvement in age fraud has come to light again. Last July, Mishra had admitted to it in a podcast.

The spinner acknowledged that he was a year older than his recorded age and that his youth coach had suggested giving him an extra year to be chosen for age-group cricket.

“I’ll tell you what, my coach assisted me with a one-year discrepancy. I was completely unaware of it. The coach called my house to request an additional year for me. The story had a lot of emotion. ‘How?’ I gasped in surprise. “You are one year younger as of today; you now have two more years,” he stated.

In a video on his YouTube channel, Amit Mishra had stated, “I agreed,” on Shubhankar Mishra’s program.

Amit Mishra represented India in 68 international matches, taking 76, 64, and 16 wickets in the three formats (22 Tests, 36 ODIs, and 10 T20Is). With the rise of wrist-spinners like Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav, Amit Mishra lost his spot in the starting lineup and played his final international match in February 2017.

Over the course of his 16-season IPL career, Amit Mishra played for four different teams: the Delhi Capitals (then known as the Delhi Daredevils) from 2008 to 2010, the Deccan Chargers in 2011 and 2012, the Delhi Capitals from 2015 to 2021, and the Lucknow Super Giants in 2023 and 2024. As the only bowler in the IPL to have claimed three hat-tricks, Mishra too has a noteworthy record.

The cunning leg-spinner has a plenty of home circuit experience as well. He took 535 and 236 wickets in 152 First-Class and List A games, respectively. In FC cricket, he also has a double-hundred (202*).
