'He was extremely friendly, felt so fantastic to chat to him'—Shashank Singh recalls meeting Virat Kohli after Amit Mishra's comments become viral

Former Indian spinner Amit Mishra delivered a biting critique of star batsman Virat Kohli, claiming that the veteran has evolved as a result of his increasing notoriety and influence. Within hours, the remarks attracted a lot of attention and were widely discussed. It is no secret that Kohli has a reputation for acting aggressively and acting vivaciously when playing. Amidst all of this, right-handed batter Shashank Singh of the Punjab Kings has revealed his interaction with him.

Shashank had an incredible Indian Premier League 2024 season. His clean hitting prowess propelled the much-discussed selection of the Punjab Kings to the front pages. In contrast to Mishra’s remarks, Shashank disclosed that he had a great conversation with Kohli following the match, during which the latter gave him advice on technique and mentality. He acknowledged his involvement but claimed he was unable to keep track of time when speaking with the veteran.

“We were in team position 12:45. I had no idea how forty minutes had flown at 12:40. And we were discussing shots, technique, mental chatter, and cricket. Additionally, there was a sense of continuance in the way he was responding. He seemed like one of our Chhattisgarh players to me. He was really amiable and tried to explain things to me. Speaking with him felt really fantastic, Shashank remarked in an interview that NDTV Sports cited.

I’ve witnessed Virat’s transformation: Amit Mishra

Before Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja added more variation to the Indian side, Mishra was a go-to spinner. He currently plays for the Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League. The 41-year-old took a harsh stance against Kohli and former India captain MS Dhoni for failing to communicate with him on his future in the squad. He emphasised that the Delhi batter had evolved since they first met, having known each other since the youngster was 14 years old.

“I’ve seen a lot of change in Virat. Our conversation had nearly come to an end. They believe that people are contacting them for a reason when they become well-known and powerful. I never belonged to the group. I’ve known Cheeku since he was fourteen years old, back when he was addicted to pizza and would eat samosas every night. However, Mishra noted that there was a significant contrast between the Cheeku I knew and Captain Virat Kohli.
