Ambati Rayudu, a former cricket player from India, has shared a humorous story about him and MS Dhoni from their time playing for the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The Men in Yellow were represented by Ambati Rayudu from 2018 until 2023.
Ambati Rayudu revealed how, during the 2019 season, Dhoni nearly begged HIM to stop objecting to the umpire’s on-field calls. Interestingly, though, after a controversial on-field decision the same year, Dhoni lost his temper and walked onto the pitch.
Mahi bhai used to tell me that I was prone to losing my temper easily, much like a tin roof. The umpire would always encourage me to concentrate on batting and not raise your hand when we pointed out that a delivery was wide or a no-ball. I don’t want you to cost me Fair Play points. Rayudu said, “It’s interesting that he himself walked onto the pitch that same year — not because of me, but because we were losing,” on JioHotstar’s “Cheeky Singles.”
The cricket player-turned-commentator also discussed his personal experiences as a member of the MI camp and the intimidating reputation that the Mumbai Indians held.
“The whole locker room had an unwritten rule when I played for MI: three or four players would jump in to support their teammate right away if someone tried to take aim at us. Few teams ever attempted to play MI because of this. In contrast, RCB would target everyone. Even they finally recognised it wasn’t a good idea to mess with MI, he continued. At times, they would make fun of me or another MI player once or twice.
Throughout his 14-year IPL career, Rayudu has only played for MI and CSK. He had a key role in the success of both franchises. The middle-order batsman struck at a pace of 127.54 and amassed 4348 runs overall in 204 games (187 innings).
