Amay Khurasiya becomes new Kerala head coach

Amay Khurasiya, a former cricket player for Madhya Pradesh and India, was just named Kerala’s new head coach. After retiring in 2004, Khurasiya began coaching soon after. For ten years, he oversaw players like Avesh Khan and Venkatesh Iyer at the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association’s academy in Indore.

Khurasiya completed a level 1 coaching course at the NCA in Bengaluru, which is noteworthy. It is also noteworthy that Shaun Tait, a former pacer for Australia, was a candidate for Kerala’s head coach position. But Khurasiya was appointed instead.

In relation to the same, the 52-year-old claimed center stage and expressed his happiness at landing the position. “To be serving Kerala cricket makes me very happy,” Khurasiya said to the Times of India.

Fascinatingly, Amay Khurasiya participated in 12 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) for Team India while representing India in the 1999 World Cup. Khurasiya scored 149 runs in 12 ODIs, his highest score being 57 runs, his sole half-century in the format.

But his performance on the home circuit was clear evidence of his skill. Khurasiya, who participated in 119 First-Class matches, amassed 7304 runs with 21 centuries. In addition, he participated in 122 List A matches, during which he amassed 3768 runs with four centuries.

Amay Khurasiya wants to take Punjab early.

After leading Kerala for a single season, M Venkataramana resigned from his position as head coach, and Khurasiya will take over. Kerala did not advance to the Ranji Trophy knockout stages under Venkataramana’s leadership last season. Kerala’s Ranji Trophy campaign kicks off this year on October 11 when they play Punjab.

Khurasiya will have the difficult challenge of gathering the players prior to the match and getting the team off to a strong start to the tournament with only a few days left before it begins.
