Alyssa Healy Sidelined for England Game Due to Calf Issue

Following a “minor calf strain” sustained during a training session on Saturday, Australia’s skipper Alyssa Healy will not play in the forthcoming women’s ODI World Cup match against England.

Alyssa Healy will continue to be watched before the team’s last league match against South Africa on Saturday, while vice captain Tahlia McGrath will skipper the team in her absence, Cricket Australia announced in a statement on Tuesday, the day before the match against England in Indore.

After a lengthy batting practice in the nets on Monday, Georgia Voll is the likely replacement for Alyssa Healy in the starting lineup, while Beth Mooney will take over as wicketkeeper for the England match. Alongside Phoebe Litchfield, she is anticipated to occupy the top spot in the order. She has already amassed one hundred and one half-centuries.

Voll has played five matches since making her ODI debut in December, replacing the injured Alyssa Healy.

Australia is now leading the points table after winning four of their five games thus far, making them the first team to advance to the semi-finals. With one more seat still up for grabs, South Africa and England have also guaranteed their places.

Although Australia may not be too upset about Healy missing their match against England because they advanced to the knockout stages, they would like to see her return to the saddle when the semi-finals are held. After starting the World Cup with little runs under her belt (she scored 27, 9, and 30 in the ODI series against India), Alyssa Healy has gained some momentum. In her opening two World Cup innings, she scored 19 and 20 runs against Pakistan and New Zealand, but she has since blasted 113 not out in 77 balls against Bangladesh and 142 in 107 balls against India.

Healy has suffered a setback with this latest injury; injuries also plagued his 2024 T20 World Cup campaign. Due to a plantar fascia injury, she missed Australia’s semifinal loss to South Africa and their last group match against India during that event.

Throughout the rest of her 2024–25 season, the injuries also had an impact. She was unable to participate in the T20 leg of the Ashes, the ODI series against India, the WBBL, and a T20 tour to New Zealand due to foot and knee problems.

Following several months of recuperation, Healy finally returned in August, playing six white-ball matches for Australia A against India A in Queensland prior to being selected for the World Cup.
