Alyssa Healy, the captain of Australia, believes that a new Women’s World Cup champion will advance the cause of women’s cricket. South Africa and India eliminated England and Australia, two previous multi-title winners, respectively, in the first and second semi-finals of the Women’s World Cup 2025.
Alyssa Healy said that India will have a “very special” chance to play in the tournament’s summit match in front of their own fervent fan base. Healy expressed the same feelings for South Africa, who have also failed to win the Women’s World Cup. The wicketkeeper-batter believed that a new champion will contribute to the global advancement of women’s cricket.
“The game will benefit greatly from the appearance of a new champion. Alyssa Healy said at the post-match press conference, “I think it’s great for them to be able to have the opportunity to play it at home in front of home fans in an ODI World Cup final which is going to be really special for them,” according to India Today.
“I think it’s great to see how well it’s been supported here in India,” Alyssa Healy said.
Both South Africa and Indian cricket stand to gain greatly from it, in my opinion. They’ve come close in the past, so I believe it will be exciting to watch them get a chance in a final. It will hurt a little, but it will be amazing to witness, and ideally it will accomplish wonderful things for the global game and lead to further investment in each of these countries in the future,” Alyssa Healy continued.
In the 12 Women’s World Cup competitions to date, Australia has won seven of them. India has had two previous appearances in the 50-over competition final (in 2009 and 2017), however this will be South Africa’s first time playing the crucial match.
On Sunday, November 2, the Women’s World Cup 2025 final will take place at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai. In the most recent round robin match between the two teams, Laura Wolvaardt’s squad defeated the co-hosts.
