'Not here to defend the title, here to win it'- Alyssa Healy excited on showcasing  unique brand of cricket

The women’s contingent hunts down trophies like ferocious predators with their sights set on their prey, much like the men’s team does. Australia Women’s domination is so great, in fact, that they have won the Women’s T20 World Cup the past three times.

Alyssa Healy, the captain of the side, had her attention fixed on the main goal. She thought her squad had the best flexibility skills without making fun of the people in front of them. She also talked about how crucial it is to adjust to the playing circumstances at a major event, as this will ultimately determine the teams vying for the World Cup championship.

“The World Cup is about winning, not about defending the title. That is why you are here. We are using that strategy here. Group A, which comprises India, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, is a challenging pool. To be in the running to win the trophy, we need to defeat these teams. I’m really looking forward to the challenge,” Healy was paraphrased as saying.

“Generally speaking, the goal of the entire competition is to adjust the fastest. The warm-up games demonstrated that you have to adjust to your surroundings really rapidly. Most likely, the team that performs the best during the competition will win. We think we’re in a good position to accomplish it, and hopefully we can,” she went on.

Healy also mentioned the need to lead the group, even in the absence of Meg Lanning, the former Australian captain and legend. She also discussed how the new effort has been a fulfilling learning experience thus far. Notably, after taking over as captain following Lanning’s retirement, the Queensland native mentioned how much she was enjoying leading her country.

“I wouldn’t say I’m in complete control right now. I believe I approached it in the same manner that I do every day. You accept each day for what it is. Evidently, a procedure was followed when she [Lanning] made the decision to formally leave the game. I applied for the job, got it, and thus far, I’ve really enjoyed it. At this stage of my career, I’m really appreciative of the chance to discover more about myself, my colleagues, and the team as a whole. It’s been beneficial,” Healy said.

The wicketkeeper-batter expressed her opinions moving forward and mentioned how the team had previously performed admirably under extreme circumstances. Australian women are therefore not intimidated by the impending pressure to compete in the T20 World Cup. Healy & Co. would be more than confident entering the competition looking to win their fourth consecutive title after winning both of their warm-up matches.

“We have the impression that we have been pursued for a very long time, without meaning to offend. We’ve grown accustomed to being questioned about it on a regular basis. We love it when teams come hard at us to put us under pressure.

There will be no exceptions to this World Cup. When given the chance, we are aware of what the other nine may hurl at us. We view it as a test and a chance to present our unique style of cricket,” Healy said in closing.
