Captain Alyssa Healy confirms that Jess Jonassen is free to return

Australia’s roster for the 2017 T20 World Cup does not include star spinner Jess Jonassen. She wasn’t included in the team when Australia visited Bangladesh earlier in the year, which suggested their strategy for the big competition. Although Ash Gardner, Georgia Wareham, Sophie Molineux, Alana King, and Sophie Wareham were selected ahead of her, captain Alyssa Healy stated that the 31-year-old’s career is not over.

Jonassen was compelled to pass on the marquee series when the selectors favoured selecting two leg-spinners. Molineux’s lack of inclusion in the squad was also influenced by the club management’s strong faith in her. Earlier in the year, in the Women’s Premier League, the Emerald-born cricketer claimed 11 wickets, and she performed admirably for Welsh Fire in the Women’s Hundred.

Alyssa Healy, meantime, revealed that she is competitive with Molineux and said that she is in the grand scheme of things.

Since they have played a lot of cricket together, the 34-year-old expressed her disappointment for Jonassen while also stating that the cricket player will be eligible for selection during the forthcoming Australian summer.

“99%, the door is still ajar and the trail is still present. You look at her career and how it’s developed, especially in the last five or six years. She’s been on the team, off the team, and she and Sophie Molineux have kind of (gone) tit-for-tat,” Healy was cited by as saying.

“I myself am disappointed with Jono. Having played a lot of cricket with her over the years, I am well aware of her clutch abilities and what she can provide to the Australian squad in major competitions. She’s still got a lot of potential on the Australian side, she said. “There’s always a niggle or something around (during) the summer, and she’ll be around this summer no doubt.”
