Ajinkya Rahane, a seasoned batter, was selected for the Indian team for the World Test Championship final due to the unlucky injury suffered by Shreyas Iyer. Prior to then, he had excellent performances in the Ranji Trophy and the 16th Indian Premier League for Chennai Super Kings, but there were still doubts about his selection because of his inconsistent performance with the bat.
Despite this, Rahane performed admirably in the final, and the selection committee chose him to lead the team on the West Indies trip as vice-captain. He has demonstrated great leadership in the past, assisting the group in a 2-1 victory over Australia in 2020–21. However, Rahane’s batting once again fell short in the West Indies series, and it is something to be concerned about moving forward.
Wasim Jaffer, a former player for India, said that if Rahane can become more reliable, he can succeed Rohit Sharma as the future captain of the Indian team in the longest version of the game. He discussed Rahane’s prior successes and expressed the opinion that he still has enough time left in his career to be the national team’s manager.

Which has been a challenge for him despite having played 80–90 Tests (84). He has struggled with consistency, but if Rohit Sharma retires, India will have a solid captaincy option in him. During a media event hosted by Jio Cinema, Jaffer stated that Rahane must first make runs before anything else can happen.
If his form from the Australia series following the 36 all-out, the way he led, and scoring a hundred in Melbourne were indicative of outstanding form, then… He would have been the next Test captain if his performance had continued. But he fell because he slipped. But he did rediscover himself in the IPL, earning a chance to participate in the WTC championship game. He also received the title of vice-captain since the Indian selection committee believed he would make a strong leader.. He still has experience on his side, but he needs to score runs; else, he will struggle.
