I’ve always loved Ajinkya Rahane, and I think he’ll take advantage of the WTC Final opportunity: Sourav Ganguly

Ajinkya Rahane

Sourav Ganguly, a former captain of India, supported Ajinkya Rahane and thinks the experienced batsman can capitalize on the chance of his Test recall in the World Test Championship match against Australia, which is set to start on June 7 at the Oval.

Notably, Ajinkya Rahane was benched from red-ball cricket in January 2022 due to a slump in his batting performance.

Since then, he has also been dropped from BCCI’s yearly contract, but now that many important players are out due to injuries, the board has decided to give him one more chance to demonstrate his character.

In terms of recent performances, the 34-year-old has been a disaster in the ongoing IPL 2023, amassing 224 runs in eight matches with a strike rate of 189.83. He is currently hitting the ball exceptionally well, which will give the cricketer much-needed confidence before the marquee match. In addition, Ganguly noted that opportunities at this time are few, and it is up to the cricketer to seize them and maintain his place.

I’ve always enjoyed him. He has consistently played well for India. Opportunities don’t arise frequently; therefore, if he is given the chance to play in the WTC championship final starting XI, he will seize the moment. Therefore, India Today quotes Ganguly as saying, “I wish him the best.”

A swift recovery is desired for Sourav Ganguly Star India batsman KL Rahul, who will also miss the World Test Championship finals and the current IPL due to a hip ailment. Karun Nair was then named as the cricketer’s replacement for the remainder of the season by the Lucknow Super Giants on Friday, May 5. In the meantime, Ganguly wished KL Rahul a swift recovery and added that injuries are becoming commonplace among cricketers because of the increased number of matches they play these days.

“It’s awful; I’ve read that the injury will prevent him from participating in the IPL and the WTC championship games. The injury’s severity can only be determined by the physios. Accidents happen in sports. These boys play for years on end, so injuries are inevitable. I thus wish him a quick recovery,” said the 50-year-old.
