Watch: Ajinkya Rahane gives Leicestershire its first century and raises dreams for an India comeback

Leicestershire’s star Indian batsman, Ajinkya Rahane, displayed exceptional batting form during the County Championship. There was no better way for Rahane to start his run-fest in Division Two of the Championship than by scoring his maiden century of the tournament against Glamorgan, having finished his One-Day Cup campaign with 378 runs in 10 innings.

Leicestershire was trailing 299 runs and appeared to be playing very comfortably, but two fast wickets saw them reduced to 37/2, which forced Rahane to come to the crease. Before joining Handscomb for a 183-run partnership, Rahane scored 37 more runs with Ian Holland, putting his team in a comparatively dominant position.

Rahane’s second century in the County Championship and his first with Leicestershire was brought up by a dashing cut off a Mason Crane ball to the vacant deep point delivery. He was spotted savouring the occasion with his signature grin and expressing gratitude to Handscomb for his congrats. This indicates that the star batsman has made a strong case for himself to be included in the Indian Test team for the Border Gavaskar Trophy, which is scheduled to take place in Australia later this year.

In response, Glamorgan amassed an incredible 550 points in their opening essay, with Colin Ingram accounting for 257 of those points. Shortly after reaching his century, Rahane was removed after being overtaken with a score of 102 (192). Nevertheless, it was a superb swat from the old pro. Following a masterfully constructed 139-run knock, Handscomb finished the game undefeated as the game concluded in a tie.
