When Aiden Markram joins Durban’s Super Giants for SA20 Season 4, he anticipates “new challenges.” With the Sunrisers Eastern Cape, the Proteas T20I captain had three fantastic seasons. He led the team from St George’s Park to two consecutive championship crowns and a runners-up finish the previous season.
However, the Super Giants responded with an improved bid of USD 806.5K to capture Aiden Markram for the upcoming season, despite the Sunrisers’ heroic efforts to keep Markram in their stable by using their Right to Match (RTM) card at the auction after the price reached USD 720K.
Although it only lasted a short time before Dewald Brevis was acquired by the Pretoria Capitals for a cool USD 950.6K, it was a new auction record at the time, exceeding the previous record of USD 530K set by Aiden Markram old SEC colleague Tristan Stubbs.
It’s thrilling. There’s always something fresh to discover. However, Aiden Markram told SA20, “It’s obviously sad to leave Sunrisers.”
“I had a great three years with them; they were great people, and Adie Birrell was a great coach.” That aspect of it is obviously depressing, but I played for the Lucknow Super Giants during the IPL, and it will undoubtedly be great to visit Durban now.
“New conditions, new challenges, new teammates, and some different teammates.” Being able to sort of see those new things and take on new tasks is always thrilling.
The Kingsmead team finished in the bottom half of the SA20 log after the Super Giants’ poor Season 3 campaign, in which they won only two games out of ten starts.
However, Aiden Markram thinks that the tide is about to turn on the east coast with the excellent team that DSG has put together, which includes former England captain Jos Buttler, swashbuckler Heinrich Klaasen, exciting fast bowlers Kwena Maphaka and Gerald Coetzee, as well as the enigmatic spin of West Indian legend Sunil Narine and Afghanistan star Noor Ahmad.
“I just checked the squad. Some world beaters are present. Naturally, you get really excited when you find out those players are on your squad,” he remarked.
Nothing compares to Klaasie (Klaasen) … For the past 18 months, or however long it has been—two years, or perhaps longer—he has been setting the world on fire. Excellent purchases in the auction as well. Excellent players, along with some charming young, dynamic players and your appropriate X-Factor people. I’m eager to interact with everyone and to foster a positive, joyful, and enjoyable atmosphere. For me, that is the main goal of the SA20, and I have no doubt that everyone will have a great time in Durban.
When DSG plays the defending champions MI Cape Town in the league opener at Newlands on December 26, it will be an instant test of their abilities in Season 4.
