'Ahmedabad, Hyderabad has high Muslim population' - Mushtaq Ahmed's weird reasoning behind warm reception for Pakistan in India

The cricket team from Pakistan arrived in Hyderabad on September 28 in preparation for the ODI World Cup 2023. The squad was welcomed with wide arms and boisterous cheers at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on a Wednesday night as they came in high spirits and excited to take part in the impending huge event.

The airport was transformed into a hotbed of excitement as a result of the warm welcome, as committed supporters had congregated to show their unshakable support and admiration for the Pakistani team. The players received nothing but acclaim from the supporters, who burst into cheers in honor of their cherished captain, Babar.

Former Pakistani cricketer Mushtaq Ahmed gave an interview to a local media outlet and discussed his observations, revealing that the sizeable Muslim populations in towns like Ahmedabad and Hyderabad were a major factor in the overwhelming support seen at the airport.

“Cities like Ahmedabad and Hyderabad have a sizable Muslim population. That is why [support] is present at the airport, he claimed, according to Cricket Pakistan.

Pakistan’s second warm-up match against Australia is planned for October 3 at the same location, Hyderabad, as they played their first warm-up match against New Zealand on September 29. These exhibition games are essential for their World Cup campaign, which begins on October 6 when Pakistan plays the Netherlands.

On October 10, Pakistan’s second World Cup match versus Sri Lanka will bring an end to their time in Hyderabad. After that, on October 14, they will go to Ahmedabad to face the hosts India.

The support and fervor shown by the spectators in Hyderabad serve as a tribute to the sport’s unifying power and the universal passion for cricket as cricket enthusiasts from around the world excitedly anticipate the start of the event.
