After the 2023 World Cup, Naveen ul Haq will stop playing ODIs to focus on his T20 career.

Naveen-ul-Haq, the star bowler for Afghanistan, has declared his retirement from one-day international cricket following the World Cup in India in 2023. The 24-year-old posted the news on his social media accounts. Naveen ul Haq explained that he made the decision to concentrate more on the game’s shortest format and to extend his career in T20 Internationals.

To participate in the ODI spectacular, Naveen ul Haq recently traveled to India with his national colleagues.

The youthful pacer was injured and was unable to compete in the recently finished Asia Cup. In reality, he joined the World Cup roster only a few days before the team left for the tournament. It’s also important to note that he will be participating in one-day internationals for the first time in more than two years at this particular tournament.

In an Instagram post, Naveen ul Haq said, “It has been an absolute honor to represent my country. I would like to announce my retirement from the ODI format at the end of this World Cup and will continue to wear this blue jersey in t20 cricket for my country. It hasn’t been an easy decision to make, but to prolong my playing career had to take this tough decision.

Speaking of his ODI cricket accomplishments, the right-arm bowler has played for Afghanistan in seven games and has taken 14 wickets at an average of 25.43 and an economy rate of 5.79. He picked up four wickets and only gave up 42 runs, which was his best bowling effort.

On Saturday, October 7 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, Afghanistan will take on Bangladesh in their opening match of the quadrennial competition. Prior to the competition, the Afghan team will also play two exhibition matches against South Africa and Sri Lanka, respectively.
