"What a fool," exclaimed Mark Waugh live after Kjorn Ottley gave Australia his wicket.

During the third and final One-Day International (ODI) at the Manuka Oval in Griffith on February 6, former Australian cricketer Mark Vaugh chastised West Indies opener Kjorn Ottley. Australia achieved a 3-0 series sweep and won the last one-day international by eight wickets.

Australia chose to bowl first, and in 24.1 overs, they dismissed the West Indies for a pitiful 86. With a score of 4/21, Xavier Bartlett was the standout bowler. Josh Inglis, the wicketkeeper-battler, scored an undefeated 35 off 16 balls to help the hosts chase down the mark in 6.5 overs.

Shai Hope and company faced harsh criticism for their awful performance against the World Champions, and the match has come out as a one-sided contest. Mark Waugh, who called the game, was especially critical of Ottley since he was only able to earn eight points off of seven deliveries.

Being the initial casualty of Bartlett, the Australian icon became enraged at the manner in which he was written off, labelling him an “idiot.”

In the third over, Kjorn Ottley was put in for a full and swinging delivery from Bartlett, who was batting against him.

It eventually struck the Windies batter’s pads after he failed to push it away. The umpire threw away the hosts’ lbw appeal. After consulting with Alick Athanaze, his opening partner, Ottley decided against reviewing. Ottley had a clear inside edge, and if he had asked for a review, he would have gone back to batting.

“He’s really done amazing! Whoa, what a fool! Two noises seemed to be present. Oh my, what on earth are they doing? It simply cannot be forgiven,” Waugh remarked. “We’re not sure if we can understand it; our batters disappointed us. We must do a thorough investigation. It all boils down to mindset and is difficult to pinpoint in one area. A few things are visible, but we didn’t play as well as we ought to have.”
