Gautam Gambhir and Shahid Afridi have been at odds for a number of years. During their playing careers, they were at the centre of several feuds that continued off the pitch after they retired. Over the course of the years, Afridi and Gambhir have frequently criticised one another.
In a recent interview, the legendary Pakistani player made a new jab at Gambhir, claiming that once he became India’s head coach, he acted as though he was always right.
Gautam appeared to believe what he stated in the beginning of his tenure. However, it has been demonstrated over time that you are not always correct,” Afridi stated in a Telecom Asia Sport interview.
Afridi appeared to be alluding to India’s dismal performance in the two-match Test series against South Africa. The host team, the Men in Blue, lost 0–2. Under Gambhir’s leadership, this was their second home Test series loss. India did win the ODI leg 2-1 following the Test series. In the five-match T20I series versus the Proteas, the Asian powerhouses currently lead 1-0.
India can rest Virat and Rohit and try some other players when they play weaker teams: Shahid Afridi
Afridi supported Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to compete in the 2027 ODI World Cup. He suggested that the Indian management save the two seasoned players for more difficult tasks by resting them against the less-favored rivals.
“You must keep these two players in place. He said, “It is a fact that Virat and Rohit are the backbones of the Indian batting line-up, and the way they have played in the recent ODI series, it can be confidently said that they can play until the 2027 World Cup.” He also suggested that India try some new players and rest Virat and Rohit when they play weaker teams.
After hitting two hundreds and one fifty against South Africa, Kohli was named Player of the Series. In contrast, Rohit won Player of the Series in the October ODI series against Australia.
