Former cricketer Mohammad Kaif thinks Afghanistan’s side has what it takes to win the current T20 World Cup. Playing a strong brand of aggressive cricket, the Rashid Khan-led team has won three straight games and advanced to the Super 8. While Fazalhaq Farooqi has been outstanding with the ball, taking 12 wickets in three matches, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran have performed admirably at bat.
Kaif stated that Afghanistan is a strong team and will be difficult to defeat under the current circumstances. He clarified that having spent more than two to three weeks in the West Indies, the team is familiar with the terrain, which would be useful in the remaining games.
Afghanistan is doing well. Their bowling is excellent; Rashid Khan and Fazalhaq Farooqi have each taken five wickets recently. After Afghanistan’s impressive victory over Papua New Guinea in the previous game, captain Rashid was overjoyed. Following the match, the 25-year-old claimed that his players could adapt to any situation and praised franchise cricket for its advancement in the shortest format.
“Everyone is in good shape; we had a home competition before coming here. Because you are familiar with the conditions—some of them having played in St. Lucia and understand how the surface will perform, which will benefit others—playing franchise cricket has its advantages. We should win that game (against WI), too, as everyone is capable of adapting to any situation, Rashid stated during the post-game press conference.
