Ravi Shastri, the former head coach of the Indian cricket team, believes that if team selection meetings are broadcasted, this will generate potential revenue, create a sense of accountability among the selection panel, and provide clarity to the supporters.
The Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) is presently searching for a new chairman of selectors following the resignation of Chetan Sharma following his involvement in the string operation scandal. The 1983 Cricket World Cup champion was also appointed chairman of the Legends League Cricket after resigning as India’s head coach following the team’s elimination from the 2021 T20 World Cup.
The 60-year-old recently disclosed in ESPN cricinfo’s Run Order that he was never invited to any selection meetings during his tenure as India’s head coach. During his administration, India accomplished a number of magnificent landmarks.
“My goal is to witness a live selection meeting. Can you envision the box office when an accountable selector is conducting a selection meeting? It is not that far off; if you desire transparency, it will occur.
Why shouldn’t they also sell the broadcast rights for the selection meetings? The selectors will be paid five times more as a result of the increased revenue,” Ravi explained.
Shiv Sundar Das is the current interim chairman of the selection committee, and the board will search for a successor following the conclusion of the IPL in 2023.
Ravi Shastri, addressing a different topic, stated that he would like to see some intriguing right- and left-hand combinations among the upcoming players. The IPL has provided selectors with a number of exceptional left-handed batsmen who are capable of representing India in the future.
“I would also like to see left-handed-right-handed combinations; just as you search for a left-handed pitcher, I’d like to see left-handed hitters as well. Even in this season’s IPL, teams that have performed well have a diverse roster. “GSK have Sudharshan, Miller, and Tewatia, while CSK have Conway, Dube, Moeen, and Jadeja,” Shastri continued.
