During the fourth edition of the five-match ODI series against Australia, star Australia leg spinner Adam Zampa wrote an unfavourable record for the nation. On Friday, September 15, the game took place at Centurion Park.
Notably, Adam Zampa tied his fellow countryman Mick Lewis for the joint-most runs allowed by a bowler in the 50-over format with his massive 113 run toss in his 10-over performance.
In that historic game, Lewis, a medium bowler, had no chance to pick up a wicket. For those that are unfamiliar with past fa, South Africa sought out the biggest total to establish a world record. The unfavourable record for the most runs given up by a bowler in ODIs is held by Lewis.
In Johannesburg, 2006, he let the Proteas to score 113 runs. In contrast, third on the list Andrew Tye gave up 100 runs against England in Nottingham in 2018.

Australia won the toss and chose to ask the hosts to bat first in the game. Quinton de Kock and Reeza Hendricks opened the batting for South Africa, which got off to a fast start. After Nathan Ellis dismissed Hendricks, giving Australia a significant victory, Rassie van der Dussen entered the game and partnered with Quinton de Kock to stabilise the Proteas’ batting.
The wicketkeeper-batter scored 45 runs off of 64 balls, while Rassie van der Dussen scored 62 runs off of 65 balls. Meanwhile, Michael Neser cheaply removed stand-in skipper Aiden Markram, who had struck a match-winning 102* in the previous game.
Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller, South Africa’s no. 5 and 6 batsmen, took the initiative and managed to put together a 200-run combination. Before being dismissed by Marcus Stoinis, the keeper-batter played a brilliant 83-ball 174-run innings.
The knock by Klaasen contained 13 boundaries and the same number of maximums. While Miller hit an undefeated 82 from 45 balls, including six fours and five sixes, he did so without being bowled. Notably, the 200-run partnership enabled South Africa to score an astounding 416 runs in just 50 overs.
