Adam Voges Takes Charge

Adam Voges, the head coach of Western Australia, has declared that he would be leaving his position as head coach of Australian domestic cricket. He will be leading the Seattle Orcas in the Major League Cricket (MLC) next season. His leadership presence on the international T20 franchise circuit is expected to grow as a result of the action.

Adam Voges takes the place of Matthew Mott, a fellow Australian, who was fired following the Seattle Orcas’ opening five games of the 2025 campaign. It was generally expected that Voges would take a senior position with an MLC team after he announced his departure from the domestic coaching system.

“I am very thrilled to be joining the Seattle Orcas for the upcoming season. The MLC competition continues to improve and I look forward to working with the owners, players and staff to help deliver success both on and off the field,” said Adam Voges as reported by ESPNcricinfo.

Adam Voges had a great time with Western Australia after replacing Justin Langer in 2018, and he has long been regarded as a top contender to eventually replace Andrew McDonald, the head coach of Australia, whose contract expires in 2027.

Having been in the position since early 2022, McDonald has stated that he is unlikely to pursue an extension. Adam Voges has worked with the senior national team and coached Australia A. He also bolstered his T20 franchise credentials by joining Trent Rockets in The Hundred as an assistant coach earlier.

Adam Voges, who led the Perth Scorchers to consecutive BBL11 and BBL12 titles and won the trophy twice as captain, is still in talks with WA Cricket about staying on as head coach of the Perth Scorchers in the BBL. Should Voges step down, assistant coaches Tim MacDonald and Beau Casson are anticipated to be among the top contenders to succeed him as WA head coach.

Adam Voges, who averaged an incredible 61.87 in 20 Test matches for Australia, is now tasked with turning around the Seattle Orcas, who have only managed four victories from 17 games in the 2024–25 seasons after making it to the championship in MLC’s first season.

Adam Voges joins the Seattle Orcas family with great pleasure. According to Seattle Orcas manager Hemant Dua, “He brings a proven track record of success, a unique ability to develop world-class talent, and a deep understanding of the nuances of T20 franchise cricket.”

“We are building something special in Seattle, and Adam is unquestionably the right person to lead the charge. His dominant run with Western Australia and the Perth Scorchers speaks to his expertise. We believe Adam’s calm demeanour, tactical intelligence, and commitment to building a high-performance culture will be pivotal as we aim for the Major League Cricket title,” he continued.
