Adam Voges, who is seen to be a serious candidate to coach Australia after Andrew McDonald’s term ends, has said that he will leave his position as head coach of Western Australia at the end of the 2025–2026 campaign. Following a very successful tenure with WA, Voges is expected to look into coaching jobs in franchise cricket.
After Justin Langer was promoted to the national position, Adam Voges assumed leadership prior to the 2018–19 season.
Western Australia had a successful period under his leadership, winning four One-Day Cup trophies and three straight Sheffield Shield championships. Interestingly, from 2021–22 to 2023–24, WA won the domestic double three times in a row.
Despite having a challenging 2024–25 season and placing last in both formats, the team has shown indications of improvement this year. Following a thrilling one-wicket victory over Queensland, WA is now ranked third in the Sheffield Shield standings.
“Over the past eight seasons, I’ve had the privilege of serving as head coach of the WA men’s team, for which I am immensely grateful. According to ESPNcricinfo, Adam Voges stated, “We have had an amazing amount of success over the past four seasons, which is a credit to everyone involved with the side.”
“Watching numerous WA players advance to international duty and succeed while representing their nation has also been incredibly satisfying. I’m excited to seek for further coaching chances in franchise cricket, even if it wasn’t an easy decision to make,” Adam Voges continued.
According to ESPNcricinfo, Adam Vogeswas in talks to become an assistant coach for the Trent Rockets in The Hundred earlier this month. His credentials for potential international positions are further strengthened by his prior experience coaching Australia A and working with the senior national squad. Voges is still in discussions with WA Cricket about staying on as the head coach of the Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League (BBL).
Having been in the position since early 2022, the head coach of Australia has indicated that he is unlikely to seek an extension of his present contract, which expires in 2027. Adam Voges, who played 20 Test matches and departed with an impressive average of 61.87, may become a top contender for the position as a result.
Western Australia has continuously provided potential for the national team under Voges’ leadership. Australia’s Test team currently includes Cameron Green and Josh Inglis, but the WA system is producing a bright new generation that includes fast bowler Mahli Beardman and all-rounder Cooper Connolly.
