Former Australian captain Adam Gilchrist is among the experts who have harshly criticised Dhoni for his tactical choice. He stated that the 43-year-old made a grave mistake by handing Khaleel Ahmed the 19th over, which resulted in Ahmed being hit for 33 runs by West Indies and RCB all-rounder Romario Shepherd. This over proved to be crucial since it helped the Bengaluru team reach a 200+ total, which at one point seemed improbable after the CSK spinners and Matheesha Pathirana made sure they mounted a comeback in the middle overs.
At the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday night, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered a devastating defeat by two runs to their opponents, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). CSK captain and superstar MS Dhoni was then questioned by both fans and analysts for the choices he made throughout the match.
In terms of strategy, I’m not sure if there could have been a significant difference. Khaleel had gone for about 32 runs in the first two overs, so it was dangerous to go back to him at the finish. He might have been able to visit Kambhoj. He may have used Jadeja with an extra over of spin, considering where Noor ended up. What a mixed bag it is. Additionally, they bowled forty-five dot balls,” Adam Gilchrist told Cricbuzz.
“MS…he never gets animated or displays any outward symptoms of being unhappy. I just want to know if he’s still getting vitality from within. As he gets closer to the end, he wonders if his brain is still working as intelligently as it always has. Whatever it is, this year or next year. The three-time World Cup champion stated, “I feel he has been let down by some bad bowling, but I don’t want to criticise his leadership too harshly.”
He would simply pick them up and never miss them: Adam Gilchrist
In addition to criticising the leadership, Gilchrist brought up Dhoni’s demise for failing to get beneath a low full ball bowled by Yash Dayal in the final over. The Australian legend claims that the former India captain has often had it easy.
Even MS is merely an indication of his current location. It was essentially a complete toss, just to miss that one. “He used to simply pick them up and never miss those,” Adam Gilchrist remarked.
