With former cricket player Aminul Islam Bulbul taking over as the board’s president in place of Faruque Ahmed, whose term has been tainted by a number of scandals and accusations, there seem to be major changes at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Bulbul revealed that the Sports Ministry had extended an offer to him for the position, and he had accepted.
Bulbul will first be elected as the board’s director before taking over the presidency. Bulbul is reportedly currently employed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) under a contract. The former captain of Bangladesh claims that he was offered the position just a few days ago and that he is not familiar with the transition procedure. Bulbul disclosed his conversations with the ICC as well.
A few days ago, I received an offer for a role. Someone has asked me to enter. The procedure is unknown to me at this time. Yes, a suggestion has also been submitted by the Sports Council. I had to speak with the ICC, where I work, before I could accept their proposition. The ICC has no objection, I said. According to The Daily Star, the nation’s first Test centurion stated, “I will come for a short time, then maybe I will go back to the ICC.”
The disputes surrounding Faruque Ahmed
Regarding the current president’s scandals, Faruque Ahmed has been the target of grave accusations. Among these are financial issues and poor domestic tournament management. Since the national team is now placed ninth in Tests and T20Is and tenth in ODIs, their performance hasn’t helped his cause either. As a result of all of these, there have been rumours that Faruque may step down or be removed from office.
