Shammi Silva, the head of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), will be replaced as the next chairman of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) by Mohsin Naqvi, the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). At the ACC’s annual general meeting on April 3, Naqvi’s appointment was officially confirmed. He will hold the position for two years.
Pakistan has formally assumed the presidency from Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) in compliance with the Asian Cricket Council’s (ACC) decision. Pakistan will take the lead in the Council’s efforts to spread cricket throughout Asia with immediate effect. The ACC is well-positioned to further enhance and broaden cricket’s reach throughout Asia under Pakistan’s leadership, promoting development and cohesion within the game, according to a press release.
The Asia Cup 2025, which is set for September, will be one of Mohsin Naqvi toughest tasks as ACC chairman.
Originally awarded to India, the event will now take place at a neutral location due to the ongoing political difficulties between India and Pakistan. This circumstance is similar to India’s earlier choice this year to hold all of their 2025 Champions Trophy matches in Dubai rather than in Pakistan.
When the ACC sold its media rights a few months ago, the topic of the Asia Cup host country was brought up. It is now Naqvi’s obligation to choose which nation will host the six-team competition. Due to its prior experience hosting international cricket events, including Asia Cup editions, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is presently the front-runner. But Sri Lanka is also being considered as a possible venue.
As he manages the challenges of hosting one of Asia’s top cricket competitions while guaranteeing the sport’s sustained expansion throughout the region, Naqvi’s leadership will be widely observed.
