After winning Player of the Series in the 2025 Asia Cup, the left-handed opener went on to win the award in the series against Australia. Former cricket player Irfan Pathan, however, has voiced his worries over Abhishek’s extremely dangerous stroke play and requested that his instructor, the renowned India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, give him quick attention.
Irfan Pathan believes that Abhishek bats in the powerplay by using his front foot, and he also believes that the opposition will quickly figure out a way to trap him. Pathan also said that in order to maintain the youngster’s current form, Abhishek and Yuvraj should work together on technique and temperament. Interestingly, Abhishek is currently the top-ranked batter in T20Is.
“We are discussing bilateral series here, but Abhishek Sharma won Player of the Series and has been playing bravely. Even so, the Asia Cup was a series with multiple nations. In World Cups, however, teams are well-prepared. Teams will start to work Abhishek Sharma out if he shows up and plays every time. He must thus make his own decisions, and I have no doubt that team management will be focusing on this. Yuvraj Singh will also be paying attention to it. According to India Today, Pathan stated on his YouTube channel, “I will even speak to Yuvi (laughs).”
Because he can’t step out to every bowler in every inning, Abhishek will also be thinking about this. Planning can therefore be improved. Two catches were dropped off his bowling in this game, and his innings would have finished even if one had been taken, according to Pathan.
