"Abhishek Sharma Overtakes Mentor Yuvraj with Fifty vs BAN"

In the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four match at the Dubai International Stadium, India’s elegant opener Abhishek Sharma maintained his excellent run with a remarkable half-century against Bangladesh. In addition to securing India’s innings, his 37-ball 75 saw him set a noteworthy milestone by surpassing his coach, Yuvraj Singh.

For the seventh time in his career, the southpaw got a half-century in 25 or less deliveries after reaching his fifty in just 25 balls. He surpassed Yuvraj, who had four such innings under his belt, with this accomplishment. Only Rohit Sharma (six) and Suryakumar Yadav (seven) have more among Indians.

Sanath Jayasuriya’s longstanding record is broken by Abhishek Sharma.

With his hit, Abhishek Sharma also increased his Asia Cup sixes total to 16, which is the most ever in a single event. In 2008, he shattered Sanath Jayasuriya’s record of fourteen sixes. He is now the only player with more over 200 runs in this Asia Cup and is recognised as India’s top T20I hitter.

Bangladesh’s bowlers, however, got off to a fast start in the match by hitting the new ball in all directions and harassing the openers in the first three overs. When substitute captain and wicketkeeper Jaker Ali missed a chance off Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Abhishek Sharma himself was given a life. In the power play that followed, Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill led the team to 72. Gill maintained the momentum with his 29 off 19, but the Men in Blue took the lead thanks to his partner’s valiant actions.

Mustafizur Rahman and Muhammad Saifuddin were pounded to the ground by the child. India reached 112 for 2 in just over 11 overs after he reached his fifty in the seventh over and carried on in the same way. However, Rishad Hossain’s deft fielding, which resulted in a run-out, ended his innings against the flow of play.

Shivam Dube and Tilak Varma did not contribute, and Skiper Suryakumar fell cheaply. India scored 168 for 6 in their 20 overs, but Hardik Pandya’s 38 off 29 gave them some hope.
