At the time, Abhishek Nayar was the first Indian head coach in the WPL, and his goal was to start a new chapter for the squad. For Season 4 of the competition, UP Warriorz, one of the original WPL franchises, is seeking a makeover. Only the vibrant young Shweta Sehrawat from the untapped Indian category has been retained by the team under new coach Abhishek Nayar ahead of the WPL Mega Auction.
Over the past three years, the UP Warriorz, who have always been among the competition’s more entertaining teams, have also put up some incredible performances. But because UP Warriorz’s results weren’t always favorable, the team decided to take a different approach and hired Abhishek Nayar as head coach.
The UP Warriorz, who made it to the WPL playoffs in their first season, will have four RTMs up for grabs at the mega auction. These can be used for players from their 2025 roster. The UP Warriorz will go into the auction with a clear goal in mind: to assemble a competitive, well-rounded roster that embodies the team’s ideals and aspirations for the upcoming campaign.
In response to the news, head coach Abhishek Nayar stated,
“The UP Warriorz have had some amazing players in previous seasons, but it is imperative that we start over as the WPL enters a new cycle. This in no way precludes our players from returning to the setup, and we are working on a new strategy. We are also optimistic that the WPL Mega Auction will enable us to reorganize our team in a way that will benefit the UP Warriorz.
UP Warriorz’s COO, Kshemal Waingankar, stated,
“As we get ready for the new season, this choice represents a new beginning for us. We can strategically plan thanks to the size of our fund and the Right to Match mechanism, which also provides our head coach, Abhishek Nayar, the freedom to put together the best possible team to contend for the championship.
