In the shortest version of the game, Abhishek Sharma, the stunning opener for India in the Twenty20 Internationals, has made history by becoming the fastest player to reach the 1000-run mark in just 528 balls. Among the contemporary masters of 20-over internationals, Phil Salt, Suryakumar Yadav, and Glenn Maxwell were all passed by the attacking left-handed batter, who was also the fastest to reach the milestone.
At the Gabba in Brisbane, during the fifth Twenty20 International of the current Australia-India series, Abhishek Sharma accomplished this accomplishment. His captain, Suryakumar Yadav, had previously reached the milestone off 573 balls throughout his T20I career, but he smashed the record with this accomplishment.
Abhishek had a rather strong record going into this match, having amassed 989 runs off just 27 innings, including two hundreds and six half-centuries.
In international cricket’s shortest format, Phil Salt of England achieved his 1000th run on his 599th ball. Australian veteran Glenn Maxwell is the fourth quickest on the list. For 1000 runs, the Australian batting all-rounder had taken 604 balls. New Zealander Finn Allen and West Indies player Andre Russell share fifth position on the list. They both reached the four-digit milestone with 609 deliveries.

In the current ICC Men’s T20I Batters Rankings, Abhishek is ranked as the top batter. The Punjabi player, who made his debut against Zimbabwe in July 2024, has advanced through the ranks to become a true powerhouse in world cricket. He had a breakthrough performance at the 2025 Asia Cup, scoring 314 runs in just seven innings to win Player of the Tournament.
At the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup, which will be contested on batting-friendly grounds in Sri Lanka and India, he will be among the Indian team’s most important prospects. It is an important practice for the southpaw to be ready, though, since the Men in Blue will play a few Twenty20 Internationals before the 20-team competition.
