Aaron Finch, a former Australian and former cricketer for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, thinks that a player like Virat Kohli is perfect for any IPL team because of the consistency he offers with his ability to score runs. Following RCB’s 11-run victory over the Rajasthan Royals on Thursday, April 24, Finch made these remarks. Later in the evening, RCB secured their first home victory of the 2025 Indian Premier League thanks in large part to Kohli’s 70 off 42, which helped them reach 205/5.
In an interview with ESPNcricinfo, Finch said, “Yes, I mean, if you are offered 650, 700 runs at the beginning of the season, from one of your top-three batters, regardless of whether your strike rate is 150 or 200, you would take that every single day because that just allows your team the platform to play around.”
Aaron Finch also emphasised how RCB had previously used aggressive middle-order hitters and how Kohli’s dependability up top made it easier to apply that strategy.
They tried to place some cowboys in the middle-order, ultra-high risk category at that point, but it didn’t quite work out. Maxwell also participated in same risky game last year, and Patidar is acting too aggressively. Thus, it merely enables you to create a platform; after Virat enters, he seldom ever leaves at thirty,” Aaron Finch continued.
Josh Hazlewood won Player of the Match for his exceptional performance with the ball, despite Kohli’s respectable batting performance against the Royals. He bowled the 17th and 19th overs, taking three wickets in the two overs and giving up just seven runs. He claimed four wickets for a total of only 33 runs.
The next match between RCB and the Delhi Capitals is scheduled for Sunday, April 27, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Having previously won all five of their IPL 2025 games, they would be eager to continue their supremacy away from home.
