This comes after sources claim that Aaqib Javed has lost interest in the position of head coach. By publishing a formal ad on its website on Saturday, April 19, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) formally began the search for a new permanent head coach.
According to the information provided, the cricket board is looking for a Level III qualified coach who has coached domestic or national teams for at least ten years.
In November 2024, Gary Kirsten was replaced as the temporary white-ball head coach by Aaqib Javed.
After Jason Gillespie resigned as head coach in the Test format due to disagreements with the board, he assumed the position of all-format coach the following month. Following the 2025 Champions Trophy, his term was scheduled to come to an end. In the ensuing tour of New Zealand, Javed was granted an extension as head coach despite Pakistan’s elimination in the opening round of the international competition. Earlier this month, the Men in Green were thrashed in the subsequent ODI leg after losing the five-match T20I series 1-4.
The PCB has now chosen not to grant the former Pakistan speedster another extension, though. Javed may still find a role in Pakistan’s cricket system despite his possible departure as interim head coach because he has indicated interest in taking on the role of Director of the High-Performance Centre, for which the cricket board has also posted an advertisement. Notably, following Nadeem Khan’s resignation, the High-Performance Center’s Director post became vacant.
If reports are to be accepted, the PCB is more likely to hire a foreign coach because it has few resources left over from the former national cricket players. Although the PCB has previously hired well-known individuals, insiders stated that it is doubtful that prominent applicants will be pursued this time.
