‘Problem hasn’t started now, it’s been happening regularly’- Aakash Chopra points out chink in Yashasvi Jaiswal’s armour

'Problem hasn't started now, it's been happening regularly'- Aakash Chopra points out chink in Yashasvi Jaiswal's armour

Yashasvi Jaiswal is among the most gifted young cricket players now competing on the global stage. In the first Test in Perth, he hit a blustery century in the second innings. But since then, he’s recorded scores of 0, 24, 4, and 4*. Mitchell Starc got rid of him in the opening over in two of those innings.

So far in the first three Test matches between India and Australia, the left-arm seamer has removed Jaiswal three times. The legendary Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) will host the Boxing Day Test, and Aakash Chopra pointed out that Jaiswal has a history of struggling against left-arm pacers. During the Indian Premier League (IPL) earlier this year, the former cricket player for India claimed that the southpaw’s weakness isn’t format-specific.

As a matter of fact, Yashasvi Jaiswal has been struggling against left-arm pace for some time now.

The occurrence has been consistent. Since this also occurred during the IPL, it is not a format-specific issue. According to Chopra’s YouTube channel, “Mitchell Starc is not the issue.”

According to the former cricket player who is now a broadcaster, Starc’s comeback has made matters worse for India’s flamboyant leading batsman.

For some odd reason, Mitchell Starc is back to his best, which is taking advantage of the fact that his numbers against left-arm pace are not that great. Although we thought his career had taken a minor turn for the worse, he has since resumed bowling with the same cadence,” he noted.

Aakash Chopra on Shubman Gill’s problems: “Looking good isn’t good enough.”

Shubman Gill is another young hitter who hasn’t been able to prove himself on the tour. Chopra brought attention to the Punjab batsman’s poor outings outside of Asia. “Gill has looked good during his brief stays at the crease,” Chopra added. However, the former India opener said that he needs to contribute much more to the squad, particularly since that the other batters aren’t playing well.

Outside of Asia, Shubman Gill hasn’t scored more than 40 runs in 16 or 17 innings in the previous three years. When India won the series in Brisbane, he last did that. It’s been some time. You are expected to meet the same standards. While hitting, he looked fine, but right now, in this batting order, his looks are insufficient,” he added.

“If Yashasvi is struggling against left-arm pace, you are struggling, (Virat) Kohli struggles if he comes early, runs haven’t come from Rohit Sharma’s bat, and (Rishabh) Pant hasn’t scored runs yet, then Shubman Gill – you will also have to give yourself a little time,” Chopra stated.
