After the five-match Twenty20 International series between South Africa and India, Aakash Chopra participated in the popular “This or That” competition, where he had to choose the world’s top batter.
In the first round of the ESPNcricinfo segment, the former India opener had to decide between veteran South Africa batsman David Miller and Australian captain Mitchell Marsh. Aakash Chopra proceeded with the former. Ignoring people like Tim Seifert and Dewald Brevis, he went on with Marsh.
But when the Hyderabad batter stood across from Marsh, he cast his vote for Tilak Varma. Aakash Chopra chose Tilak over Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Josh Inglis, Shubman Gill, Phil Salt, and Kusal Mendis in the following five rounds. But when Travis Head’s name appeared, the Indian left-handed batter was released.
Against seasoned players Jos Buttler and Suryakumar Yadav, the devastating Australian batter won the following two rounds. In the subsequent round, Head was likewise selected before Tim David. But Head was replaced by Abhishek Sharma, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) starting partner.
According to Aakash Chopra, the Punjab batter went on to win the greatest T20I batter competition.
In 2025, Abhishek Sharma becomes India’s top run scorer in Twenty20 Internationals.
In July 2024, Abhishek Sharma played his first international match against Zimbabwe. After recording a duck in his first game, he went on to score a scorching century in the following match and never looked back. Abhishek made 2025 a memorable year at bat, solidifying his position as the Men in Blue’s top batsman in the shortest format.
He scored 859 runs at an average of 42.95 and a strike rate of 193.46 in 21 Twenty20 Internationals this year. In T20I cricket, he scored more runs than any other Indian batsman. One player to keep an eye on at the T20 World Cup the following year is Abhishek. In his debut ICC competition, the 2025 Asia Cup Player of the Tournament will try to have an outstanding season for the senior Indian squad.
