The former cricket player for India, Aakash Chopra, was tempted to wonder why he was playing Axar. “What exactly are we doing with Axar Patel? What’s the point of playing him? Make a small clarification. One over at Kingsmead (Durban) and one over here, Axar Patel. Chopra posted a video on his YouTube channel, saying, “He bowled just one over on a pitch where six of the seven wickets were picked up by spinners.”
In the first two T20Is against South Africa, Axar Patel has only bowled one over each. This has happened even though the pitches are quite favorable for spinners. Considering how well Varun Chakravarthy and Ravi Bishnoi, the front-line spinners, have performed in the games thus far, the choice to underuse Axar has drawn criticism.
India defeated South Africa in the opening Twenty20 International, and they scored 124 on Sunday to make it difficult for the Proteas to match their score. In a four-match T20I series, South Africa was put through a difficult period by Varun Chakarvarthy’s fifer, but Tristan Stubbs’ 47 enabled the hosts tie the series.
Chopra further said that, in his opinion, the India batting disaster that occurred in the second Twenty20 International was not as bad as the way Axar was handled.

Chopra noted that although Axar was difficult to get run-out, the top order and the other batters’ performance was obviously lacking.
