Shivam Dube’s exclusion from the BCCI’s team for the upcoming five-match T20Is series against England has been questioned by Aakash Chopra. The ODI series against Sri Lanka in August marked the southpaw’s final appearance for India.
Dube participated in every India game at the 2024 T20 World Cup. Except for the final, in which he helped the Men in Blue win the trophy by hitting a vital 27-run knock off 16 balls against South Africa, he didn’t have much of an impact otherwise. Although Dube did not fulfil his potential in the first round of the event, Chopra noted that he recovered well to make amends.
“How did Shivam Dube fare? Although he is unable to make his spot, I still wanted to speak with Ruturaj (Gaikwad). There’s Rajat Patidar, too. Of course, there’s a lot of batting involved. But now, I’m going to give Shivam Dube some attention. In an official YouTube video, Chopra stated, “He was a member of the T20 World Cup-winning team.”
“Everyone ought to receive the credit when you succeed. In fact, he performed fairly well in the final. He wasn’t batting or fielding well beforehand, so there were undoubtedly some doubts. But after that, Chopra noted, “he played well and won the T20 World Cup.”
Aakash Chopra abruptly vanished from the distance
At a strike rate of 114.65, the Mumbai all-rounder finished with 133 runs from eight innings throughout the 20-team competition. Chopra believes that suddenly Dube dropped out of the running. Aakash Chopra recommended that, in accordance with the old procedure, Dube be selected for the team before anyone else until he is fully fit again.
“After that, he continued to be somewhat wounded, didn’t receive many chances, and is currently absent from the squad. He isn’t being mentioned either. No one is enquiring as to where Dube went, but Riyan Parag is not being discussed due to his injury. Then he abruptly vanished from the horizon,” he added.
He would definitely be deserving of playing for another year or two if he were good enough to make the World Cup roster. Because of his injuries, he has stayed out, but there was a belief before that whoever is out first will return, and whoever takes his place would have to sit out regardless of what he did,” Chopra said.
33 T20Is and four ODIs have been played for India by the 31-year-old. Between 43 and 448 runs, he has scored. He has yet to claim a scalp in the 50-over format. In contrast, he has already claimed 11 wickets in T20Is.
