‘Don’t remember the last time it happened’ - Aakash Chopra analyses Virat Kohli's spin issue in the match against Sri Lanka

In three ODIs of the just finished series against Sri Lanka, star batsman Virat Kohli of India scored 24, 14, and 20 runs, respectively. Interestingly, though, a spinner defeated him in each of the three games. Prominent for his skill with spin, Aakash Chopra, a former cricketer from India, pointed out that Kohli misjudged the line and length against them. Every time he was out of bounds in a match, a review was conducted on the ball after his dismissal.

He was defeated by Wanindu Hasaranga in the opening game of the ODI series, and he was removed from the game by Jeffrey Vandersay and Dunith Wellalage in the second and third games, respectively. Remarkably, Kohil has always battled with spin. He has had severe trouble in the past few years against wrist spinners, and the Sri Lanka series saw little improvement in this area.

In three innings against spinners, Virat Kohli was bowled out three times. The last time it occurred is lost on me. He was wasting reviews every time and playing the wrong line.

On his YouTube channel,  Aakash Chopra stated, “He wasn’t quite able to impose himself in the series.”

In addition, Shreyas Iyer, who has also struggled in the series, was discussed by the former cricket player turned broadcaster. The cricket player from Mumbai made his first appearance after being cut from the BCCI’s central contract, although he was ineffective during the three-match series. Iyer only scored 38 runs in the series, despite having a great chance to perform well and guarantee his status on the team for the Champions Trophy 2025. In response, Chopra said he wasn’t sure why skilled spinners were having trouble.

Despite being regarded as a skilled spinner, Shreyas Iyer was removed once for a pace and failed to counter-attack twice. He continued, “I’m not sure why it’s happening if our skilled spin players are putting up such performances.

The first game of the series ended in a draw, but the visitors lost the next two by scores of 32 and 110 runs, respectively. With that, Sri Lanka won its first ODI series against India in 27 years under the leadership of Charith Asalanka, creating history.
