Young wrist spinner Rehan Ahmed of England, who is getting ready to take against Rohit Sharma‘s team in a five-match Test series starting in Hyderabad on January 25, admitted that it will be challenging to perform well in Indian conditions against some of the more proficient spinners. Rehan Ahmed, Tom Hartley, Shoaib Bashir, and Jack Leach are the other three specialist spinners selected for England’s Test team. In his lone Test match against Pakistan, which took place in Karachi in 2022, the 19-year-old claimed seven wickets.
The 19-year-old acknowledged the difficulties but promised to give the team his all. The adolescent felt there was still plenty of time for him to succeed in the Indian Premier League (IPL), thus he wanted to play more games for his country. This may be the cause of his withdrawal from the IPL 2024 mini-auction held in Dubai one day prior to the event.
“I realize this will be difficult. I’ll give it my all. All I can do is that. All I can think about is getting back into Test cricket. Making sure I’m ready for whatever I can be for England is the least I could do. If I have the chance again, I’ll definitely do the Indian Premier League and other things; if not, that’s okay too. I told a few folks that you shouldn’t burn out too soon if you want a long career.
My top priority is just getting ready for England,” Rehan Ahmed stated to The Telegraph.
Rehan Ahmed continued by highlighting his goal of creating a flipper that resembles the late Australian legend Shane Warne and his want to learn how the legend lined batters up to hit it.
“I try to keep things as basic as possible when competing; I dislike concentrating on new stuff. But I’m confident I can focus and concentrate on something exceptional during my two or three weeks vacation. The flipper is a good ball to have, in my opinion, especially with T20 cricket and, given the current state of play, even Test cricket. Considering how Warney used to bowl it and set batsmen up, Flipper is a good ball to have, the 19-year-old continued.
