In a cookery show named “Sourav Ganguly’s Special Recipe with Sanjyot Keer,” former cricket player Sourav Ganguly shared an intriguing tale about why he wore a disguise during Durga Puja. Sanjyot, a well-known chef, promotes his dishes on his YouTube channel.
Sourav Ganguly was called to speak as a guest and talked about a number of personal experiences.
The intriguing aspect was that he dressed as a Sikh to partake in the immersion of Durga Puja, which is particularly exciting in West Bengal. Being a well-known figure, the cricket player from Kolkata definitely did not want to be in a crowded setting where everyone would have been watching him.
He became a Sikh in order to avoid the spotlight, and he and his family attended the religious ceremony. Even though he was dressed differently, everyone around him were able to identify him, therefore his disguise was short-lived. When telling the host the anecdote, the former cricket player was in a very amused mood.
“My daughter and I engaged in a little competition. People will still recognise you, she responded, in response to my statement that they won’t be able to recognise me if I turn into a Sardar. I had therefore converted to Sikhism and attended Maa Durga’s immersion in the picture. The police recognised me as soon as I got inside the car. Numerous police officers were present. People will recognise you no matter what you do,” he disclosed.
“I proceeded directly since your car will drive straight. I went there, stood there, and got down. Because no one anticipated me, I wasn’t recognised at first. I instructed my wife to be silent. “This looks very good on you,” my wife commented. She was captured by the person behind me. “My daughter burst out laughing,” the former captain of India continued.
In addition to being the current chair of the ICC Men’s Cricket Committee, Sourav Ganguly has played for the Delhi Capitals Women in the WPL, where they finished second in the just finished 2025 season.
