Joe Root maintain his lead in the ICC rankings as the best Test batsman

According to the most recent ICC rankings update, star England batsman Joe Root has solidified his standing as the best Test batter. The English cricketer’s outstanding performance has not only separated him from his nearest rivals but also put him in position to eclipse his own personal best.

In the current series against Sri Lanka, the 33-year-old has amassed an outstanding 922 rating points thanks to back-to-back centuries. With this, he now leads New Zealand’s Kane Williamson, who is presently ranked second in the Test batting rankings, by a significant 63 points.

Joe Root has been pulling off some pretty amazing stunts lately.

The fact that Joe Root is on the verge of surpassing his own record adds even greater significance to his accomplishment. Merely one point short of the 923 rating he attained in July 2022 at Edgbaston following a century against India. In Test cricket, only three English batsmen—Peter May, Jack Hobbs, and Len Hutton—have ever had higher career ratings.

Gus Atkinson enters the top 20 in the list of all-arounders, while Das drops to number 15.

In addition, England’s Gus Atkinson, who was named Player of the Match at Lord’s after hitting a century and taking five wickets—a feat only three players in Men’s Test history at the ground have accomplished—made noteworthy progress in a number of areas.

The Sri Lankan team experienced gains in player rankings in spite of their loss. After his half-centuries, Kamindu Mendis moved up 11 places to 25th place, and Asitha Fernando broke into the top ten bowlers for the first time with an eight-wicket haul.

A number of Bangladeshi players advanced significantly in the rankings as a result of their thrilling series victory over Pakistan. Mehedy Hasan Miraz and Litton Das stood out in particular since they both achieved significant advancements in their fields.
