In the ongoing second Test match between England and Sri Lanka, veteran batter Joe Root gave an outstanding effort. Root helped England score a total of 251 runs in the second innings after he struck a stunning 143 runs in the first. In the second innings, Root scored 103 runs in 121 deliveries.
With the century, Root broke even another record, surpassing Alastair Cook’s previous England record of 33 Test hundreds by one. Cook needed 161 matches to reach the milestone, while Root reached it in his 145th Test match.

On social media, the identical photo has been going viral. England Cricket posted the photo of Root with his father on X, the platform that was formerly known as Twitter. The father-son team received a standing ovation from the entire stadium during their embrace.

Noteworthy is the fact that Root’s century moved him past Graham Gooch and Michael Vaughan to become the player with the most centuries at the Lord’s Cricket Ground. In addition, he joined George Headley, Gooch, and Vaughan as the only batters at Lord’s Cricket Ground to score hundreds of runs in both innings.

Thanks to the brilliance of their star batsman, England was able to establish a strong lead in the second innings and set a goal of 483 runs for Sri Lanka to meet. Sri Lanka lost two wickets on day three of the match, finishing with a 53-run total. In order to win, even with the slim odds of success, the visitors will need to get some outstanding hitting from their hitters.
