When India embarks on a five-match Test series in Australia beginning in November, the great Sunil Gavaskar has tipped the team to win 3-1. Australia will try to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy back as they attempt to win it for the first time since 2017.

During their most recent trips to Australia, in 2018–19 and 2020–21, India emerged victorious in the Test series against Australia. Australia triumphed in the World Test Championship (WTC) finals held at The Oval last year between the two sides. The two teams are occupying the top two positions in the current WTC cycle once more.

The team that prevails in the forthcoming five-game series will almost certainly secure a spot in the championship game the following year. Given the calibre of players on both teams, Gavaskar thinks the series will serve as excellent promotion for the game’s longest format. He did, however, project a score of 3-1 in favour of Rohit Sharma and company.

Given the skill on both sides, the series promises to be thrilling and will further demonstrate why Test match cricket is the best format for our favourite sport. Oh, and I think India will win 3-1,” Gavaskar said in his Sunday Midday column.

In response to David Warner’s announcement of his retirement from red-ball cricket, Australia attempted to start with Steve Smith. In the new position, though, the renowned right-handed batter has pretended to be deceptive. Gavaskar noted that the middle order was a “bit dodgy” and that the hosts could have trouble with both their opening combination and middle order.

The former cricket player turned pundit remarked, “With their opening batting problems exacerbated after David Warner’s retirement and the middle-order also a bit dodgy, the Aussies are ripe for the taking once again.”

India is typically a slow beginning in SENA nations, hence this first test will be important: Sunil Gavaskar

In addition, Sunil Gavaskar mentioned that India is a latecomer to the SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia) group of nations. The 75-year-old believes that the opening contest will be significant. In addition, he voiced his worries over India’s lack of practice matches before and throughout the series.

“The first Test will be important because India typically starts foreign series in SENA countries slowly. It could be detrimental to them because they aren’t participating in official first-class matches before to that and that some Test matches have week-long intervals in between. Having said that, most touring bands these days have similar schedules,” the author stated.
