Shoriful Islam's groin injury keeps him out of the 2nd Test against Pakistan

A groin strain has forced Bangladeshi fast bowler Shoriful Islam out of the second Test match against Pakistan in Rawalpindi. Now, he must work quickly to recover in time for the two Tests that will be held in India next month.

Following the first Test last week, Shoriful complained of soreness in the groin area, which was later confirmed by testing, according to Bayjedul Islam Khan, the team physiotherapist for Bangladesh.

Shoriful Islam underwent an MRI following the first Test and the results show a Grade 1 left adductor strain,” Bayjedul explained. “Recovery usually takes around 10 days in such cases and he has started his rehab.”

At the first Test match between Bangladesh and Pakistan at Rawalpindi, Bangladesh won by ten wickets with Shoriful taking three wickets.

With two sixes in a 14-ball 22, he demonstrated his skill with the bat as well. He was replaced in Bangladesh’s starting XI for the second Test by Taskin Ahmed.

Since his debut three years ago, Shoriful has participated in 11 Test matches for Bangladesh but has also missed 11 matches. After more than a year away, Taskin is making a comeback to the format.

Bangladesh’s next task is to tour India, with the first Test scheduled to begin on September 19 in Chennai. The tour continues till October 12 and includes two Tests and three Twenty20 Internationals.

Bangladesh’s itinerary is packed until the end of 2024: following their tour of India, they play two Test matches against South Africa at home in October, followed by a lengthy tour of the West Indies in November and December.
