In the home series vs England, Lewis will captain Ireland once more

After overcoming a quad strain she suffered in the first ODI against Sri Lanka earlier this month, Gaby Lewis will captain Ireland in their home white-ball series against England. After suffering a ligament injury to her ankle in the second Twenty20 International match against Sri Lanka, regular skipper Laura Delany has still not fully recovered.

Alice Tector was called up for the first time in T20Is after making her ODI debut against Sri Lanka. She is the sister of Harry Tector, the batter for the Ireland men. Following an injury sustained in the first Twenty20 International against Sri Lanka, Una Raymond-Hoey was added back to both white-ball teams. After a five-year break, she had made her comeback to international cricket earlier this month.

National selector Ciara O’Brien expressed disappointment that Laura’s injury was more serious than initially believed. “Her years of experience and leadership will be missed,” O’Brien added. “Gabby has led before, though, when Laura wasn’t there. We are confident that she will bring her flawless high standards to the role of lead for the England series, therefore we are extremely comfortable with her taking over.

“This is a young side, with an average age of less than 22 years, and we hope that all Irish cricket fans to turn up and support the team.”

In T20Is, Lewis is Ireland’s top run scorer and second most experienced player after Delany.

She recorded her first T20I century in the second T20I against Sri Lanka. In their first-ever ODI victory over Sri Lanka, she led Ireland to victory. This series earned Ireland their first points in the Women’s Championship 2022–25.

Out of the total 14, twelve players are involved in both white-ball teams. Only the ODIs include Alana Dalzell and Joanna Loughran, while the T20I squad only includes Ava Canning and Christina Coulter Reilly.
