ENG vs SL, 3rd Test: Andrew Flintoff will be part of England's coaching staff

Marcus Trescothick, the acting head coach of England’s white-ball team, has decided to take a vacation before the Australia series in September. In the meantime, Andrew Flintoff, who joined the Test team in 2024, has been temporarily added to England’s coaching staff for a year leading up to the T20 World Cup. Prior to the third Test match between England and Sri Lanka in London, he is anticipated to work momentarily with the England batting team.

Notably, following Trescothick’s return for three Twenty20 Internationals and five One-Day Internationals against Australia, the former all-rounder will not be a member of the coaching staff.

Andrew Flintoff, who coached the Northern Superchargers, who placed fourth in the league, is fresh off a demanding The Hundred competition.

On Wednesday, he will report to the Test squad and spend the next two days in training. Furthermore, it has been reported by that Flintoff will not be travelling to Pakistan and New Zealand on the winter tour. Conversely, Trescothick’s sabbatical will begin following the conclusion of the second Test match at Lord’s against Sri Lanka.

He will just attend the opening Twenty20 International on September 11 at Southampton’s Utilita Bowl. Trescothick also discussed the possibility of Jos Buttler giving up his position as wicket-keeper batsman and his prospects as a white-ball skipper.

Trescothick, cited by, stated, “It’s definitely something we’ll think about because we can try different options, give it a go for a period of time and see what reaction it has on his captaincy and on the team.”

For whatever reason, they had a difficult couple of World Cups in the interim, and we’re not exactly feeling great about our one-day cricket after that. However, he continued, “I don’t see it changing. Jos will continue to lead that forward for a while. It’s still in a really good place.”
