In order to guarantee a place in the middle order of India’s Test lineup, Devdutt Padikkal is eager to score heavily in the next Duleep Trophy 2024. Earlier this year, in a match against England in Dharamsala, the southpaw made his Test debut, scoring 65 off 103 balls in his lone at-bat opportunity. Ten fours and one maximum made up his graceful knock.
The 24-year-old has been selected for Team D in the Duleep Trophy, which will begin play on Thursday, September 5. In the red-ball competition, he will be coached by Indian Premier League champion Shreyas Iyer. Padikkal’s Ranji Trophy campaign the previous year was incredible; in just four matches, he scored 556 runs at an average of nearly 93, including three hundreds. He hopes to maintain his strong form in the Duleep Trophy in order to establish himself as a middle order member of India.
“The Duleep Trophy is, indeed, a highly significant competition. At the top level, opportunities are few, thus it’s imperative that I keep scoring runs, Padikkal was cited by India Today.
I felt prepared for the game going in. I believed I had earned that position. Recalling his red-ball debut for the national squad, the Edapal native remarked, “Playing a lot of domestic cricket and scoring heavily in the Ranji Trophy gave me the confidence to perform.”
“I need to keep concentrating on my areas of improvement because test cricket is a difficult format,” the Karnataka batsman stated.

In Bengaluru, Padikkal is presently pursuing his career in the Maharaja Trophy 2024. In the Twenty20 tournament, he is playing for Gulbarga Mystics. Padikkal stated that he is attempting to play the game in its shortest version with a far more aggressive strategy than previously and that he is experiencing success.
“In T20 cricket, I’ve been attempting to adopt a more aggressive approach, and I’m making improvement. It involves a mindset adjustment, but it’s tough,” he clarified.

Padikkal has scored 240 runs at a strike rate of 138.72 and an average of 26.66 in nine Maharaja Trophy matches thus far. With the Mystics having advanced to the knockout stage, the elegant left-handed hitter will be looking to put up some outstanding displays with the willow at the end of the season.
