Reports: Rohan Jaitley is the front-runner to take Jay Shah's place as BCCI secretary

The competition to become the next Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India is apparently being led by Rohan Jaitley, the president of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) at the moment (BCCI).

The possibility of Jay Shah, the current secretary of the BCCI, being the future head of the International Cricket Council (ICC) has been the subject of recent rumours.

Rumour has it that the outgoing ICC chairman, Greg Barclay, has confirmed he would not run for a third term, and the current secretary of the BCCI is interested in taking over as chairman. If chosen, Shah, who is 35 years old, might become the ICC’s youngest-ever head.

15 of the 16 ICC board members are in favour of Jay Shah.

Reports from Dainik Bhaskar indicate that BCCI officials are beginning to come to a consensus on Jaitley’s candidature for secretary.

Through his position at DDCA, Jaitley—son of the late politician Arun Jaitley—has been making waves in the cricket administration world. It would be a significant career achievement for him to be promoted to BCCI Secretary.

The cricket community as a whole is waiting for the announcement of the incoming chairman, and the deadline for ICC chairmainship nominations is August 27.

If Shah decides to run, his election will likely look like a formality because he apparently has strong support from the ICC board, with 15 of the 16 members supporting him.

Returning to the BCCI, it is anticipated that other high-ranking officials, such as President Roger Binny, will stay in their positions for the remaining year of their tenure, despite the possibility of a change at the secretary level.

Indians have held the esteemed position of ICC chairmanship in the past, having included notable figures such as Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N Srinivasan, and Shashank Manohar.
