I hope Zoraver knows about My cricket journey and retirement: Shikhar Dhawan

On Saturday, August 24, Shikhar Dhawan declared his retirement from both domestic and international cricket. He stated that he rather his kid Zoraver to remember him as a kind person rather than as a player.

In October 2023, a Delhi local court approved Dhawan’s divorce from his estranged wife, Aesha Mukerji, on the grounds that the former had suffered mental abuse. Dhawan disclosed on Father’s Day of this year that he didn’t communicate with Zoraver, an 11-year-old.

The Delhi batsman was asked in a recent interview what he would like his son to remember from his cricket career. In response, Dhawan expressed that he hoped his son will remember him as a kind person who surrounded himself with positivity and good actions.

“Zoraver is currently eleven years old. I hope he learns of my retirement and my entire cricket life. However, I would prefer that Zoraver remember me more as a kind person who performs good actions and uplifts others around him than as a cricket player,” Dhawan said in an interview with Hindustan Times.

Notably, Zoravar, a newborn boy, was born in 2014 after Dhawan and Aesha were blessed with their marriage in 2012. In his appeal, the left-handed hitter claimed that Aesha had at first promised to stay in India with him. Nevertheless, she was unable to move to India because of her obligation to her daughters from her first marriage, which required her to remain in Australia. During an interview, Dhawan expressed his want to spend meaningful time with his kid, confessing that he hadn’t spoken to him in a period of five to six months.

Shikhar Dhawan said goodbye to both local and international cricket on Saturday.

After participating in 34 Tests, 167 ODIs, and 68 T20Is for India, the 38-year-old declared his retirement. In terms of runs scored, Shikhar Dhawan amassed 2,315 in Tests, 6,793 in ODIs, and 1,759 in T20Is. 24 centuries and 55 half-centuries were achieved during his global career. Dhawan played his final match for his country, Bangladesh, in December 2022.

Due to his inconsistent play and the rise of young players with skill like Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan, he was dropped from the starting lineup. His contributions to Indian cricket, particularly in ICC competitions, will live on, nevertheless.
