Sheikh Hasina and Shakib Al Hasan are charged for Rubel's death at a rally in Bangladesh

Shakib Al Hasan, the former captain of Bangladesh, is facing dire circumstances as he is being held accountable for the August 7 murder of Rubel, who was killed during protests in his country. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left the country as a result of the students’ unrest against the government over unequal employment distributions. There was an incident after Rubel allegedly participated in anti-government demonstrations.

Former prime minister Hasina is among the suspects in addition to Shakib. It is important to remember that Shakib was an MP in Hasina’s previous administration and a member of her Awami League political party. Furthermore, the father of the late Rubel, Rafiqul Islam, filed a lawsuit, and according to an ESPNcricinfo story, 400–500 other persons were also charged.

The 55th accused in the event is actor and politician Ferdous Ahmed, who has brought attention to Bangladesh’s entertainment sector. Interestingly, Ferdous was an MP for the Awami League Political Party. For the uninformed, Hasina’s government was the target of riots in Bangladesh that resulted in the deaths of over 450 people before she left the nation on August 5.

In related cricket news, Hasina’s ally Nazmul Hassan, the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), announced his resignation. Faruque Ahmed, a former Bangladeshi skipper, overthrew him to take over as BCB President. Given that Nazmul worked under Hasina for more than 15 years as Sports Minister, their political ties may be seen.
