BAN vs PAK: Mohammad Rizwan becomes the fifth wicketkeeper hitter from Pakistan to score 150 or more

In Rawalpindi, Pakistan faced Bangladesh in the inaugural Test match. After Babar Azam left for a silver duck, the hosts found themselves down at 16 runs for the loss of three wickets. Together, Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel tempered the team’s hopes with a 240-run partnership for the fifth wicket.

Mohammad Rizwan also scored an undefeated 171 off 239 balls.

The wicket-keeper hitter became the fifth player in Pakistani history to score more than 150 runs in an innings, and he stands on the same pedestal with legendary players Imtiaz Ahmed, Taslim Arif, Rashid Latif, and Kamran Akmal. Furthermore, the right-handed batsman broke the curse by being the first Pakistani wicketkeeper to score 150 or more runs since 2009.

Talking about Shakeel, the southpaw not only tied the record for the fastest hitter in Pakistan to achieve 1000 runs, but he also stitched together a vital 240-run partnership with Rizwan. In 20 innings, the 28-year-old accomplished this accomplishment. Despite his strong knock, he was removed after scoring 141 runs in 261 balls and hitting nine boundaries. On Day 2, Pakistan declared their innings at 448 for six. The wicket showed many of the same characteristics that Shan Masood had emphasised at the toss.

“We have never played in Pindi (Rawalpindi) in August, so we were also going to bowl first. It will be difficult because there is a lot of grass on the pitch. It has rained as well, but if we bat well, it will be difficult to bat in the last moments of the game with the cracks, Masood added.

Day 2 bowlers from Bangladesh aren’t very solid.

With 12 overs remaining on Day 2 when Bangladesh started the innings. The visitors finished the day with 27 runs scored and no wickets lost thanks to the opening combination of Shadman Islam and Zakir Hasan, who were able to withstand the most of Pakistan’s pacers.

The Bangla Tigers bowled well on Day 1, but on Day 2 they were taken to task. Star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan managed just one wicket in 27 overs, while Hasan Mahmud and Shoriful Islam chipped in with two wickets apiece.
