Ollie Pope, a star hitter for England, was signed by BBL (Big Bash League) team Adelaide Strikers as a pre-draft addition for the next season. Pope will miss the Strikers’ opening game of the season on December 17 against Sydney Thunder, though, as England’s Test team concludes their series against New Zealand on December 18.
Pope will play with a number of well-known players, including D’Arcy Short, Chris Lynn, Alex Carey, and Matthew Short, after joining the team. Pope’s T20 record with Surrey has been a major factor in Strikers’ decision to sign him.
Pope has a strong record for Surrey, averaging 33.25 over 50 games played. His recent appearances in The Hundred for London Spirit, however, might raise questions for the side. Pope scored 35 runs in the side’s five games as Spirit finished last in The Hundred Standings.
